Adding Memories¶

Create a meaningful digital tribute by adding photos, videos, audio recordings, and written memories to your Memory Chest. The Digital Memory Chest provides a respectful, elegant interface designed specifically for memorial content.

Quick Start¶

Navigate to Upload Memories - Select a Memory Chest, then choose "📤 Upload Memories" from the navigation
Choose Your Files - Drag and drop or browse to select photos, videos, audio, or text files
Add Context - Provide captions and descriptions for each memory
View in Gallery - Access the enhanced Gallery to see your memories beautifully organized

Supported File Types¶

Images 📷¶

Formats: JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP
Recommended: High-resolution photos for best display
AI Processing: Automatic tagging and categorization

Videos 🎥¶

Formats: MP4, AVI, MOV, WEBM
Features: Automatic thumbnail generation
AI Processing: Audio transcription when available

Audio 🎵¶

Formats: MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG
Features: Waveform visualization
AI Processing: Whisper-powered transcription

Text Documents 📝¶

Formats: TXT, MD (Markdown)

File Size Limits¶

Individual Files: 100 MB maximum
Total Upload: 500 MB per session
Recommendations: Compress large videos for faster processing

Adding Memories Step-by-Step¶

1. Access Upload Interface¶

After selecting a Memory Chest:

Navigate to "📤 Upload Memories" in the sidebar
If no chest is selected, you'll see helpful guidance to create or select one first
The upload interface provides multiple ways to add files

2. Upload Methods¶

Drag files directly onto the upload area
Multiple files supported

File Browser¶

Click "Browse files" to open file selector
Select multiple files using Ctrl/Cmd+click
Preview selected files before upload

Continue adding more after initial upload completes

3. Add Context and Captions¶

For each uploaded memory:

Caption: Brief description or title
Story: Longer narrative or context
Date: When the memory was captured (if different from upload date)
Tags: Keywords to help organize memories

4. AI Processing¶

Once uploaded, memories are automatically processed:

Images: AI generates descriptive tags
Audio/Video: Transcription extracts spoken content
Text: Content is indexed for search
Thumbnails: Generated for easy browsing

Asset Cards¶

Each memory is displayed in an enhanced card showing:

Type Badge: Visual indicator (📷 Image, 🎥 Video, 🎵 Audio, 📝 Text)
Thumbnail/Preview: Visual representation of the content
Title: Original filename or custom title
Date: Capture date or upload date, elegantly formatted
Caption Preview: First 60 characters with proper ellipsis
File Size: Clearly formatted (e.g., "1024 KB", "15.0 MB")

View Details: Full modal with complete memory information
Delete Option: Tasteful confirmation dialog with warning

Click "👁️ View Details" on any memory to see:

AI-Generated Content¶

Tags: Automatically generated descriptive keywords

Date Range: Select specific time periods
Search: Find memories by filename, caption, or transcribed content

Memory Management¶

Editing Memories¶

Open Asset Details: Click "👁️ View Details" on any memory
Edit Information: Update captions, descriptions, dates
Modify Tags: Add or remove AI-generated tags
Save Changes: Updates are immediately reflected

Deleting Memories¶

The delete process includes careful safeguards:

Delete Button: Click the 🗑️ button on any memory card
Confirmation Dialog: Professional warning modal appears
Final Confirmation:
Clear warning: "Delete '[filename]'?"
Explanation: "This action cannot be undone"
Two options: "✅ Yes, Delete" or "❌ Cancel"
Completion: Memory removed and Gallery updates automatically

Permanent Deletion

Deleted memories cannot be recovered. The system provides clear warnings and confirmation steps to prevent accidental deletion of precious memories.

Best Practices¶

For Photos¶

Use high-resolution images for best quality
Include descriptive captions for context
Consider the emotional impact of image selection
Group related photos by event or time period

For Videos¶

Keep individual files under 50MB when possible
Provide context for important moments captured
Use clear, descriptive filenames
Consider breaking long videos into segments

For Audio¶

Ensure good audio quality for transcription
Add descriptions for music or ambient sounds
Include speaker identification when relevant
Preserve original recording dates when possible

For Text¶

Use meaningful filenames
Include dates and context
Consider formatting for readability
