Gallery View Guide¶
The Gallery View provides a visual interface for browsing and managing your beehive inspection photos organized by inspection sessions.
WORK IN PROGRESS -- UPDATES COMING SOON
Gallery features are being enhanced with additional filtering and search capabilities. This documentation will be updated as new functionality becomes available.
Accessing Gallery View¶
- Navigate to Gallery: Click "Gallery View" in the sidebar navigation
- Wait for loading: The gallery loads your existing inspection data
- Browse inspections: Use the interface to explore your photo collection
Gallery Interface Overview¶
Inspection Selection¶
The Gallery View organizes photos by inspection sessions rather than individual images:
- Inspection dropdown: Select from available inspection sessions
- Chronological ordering: Inspections are sorted by date (newest first)
- Inspection naming: Each inspection is labeled with letter (A, B, C...) plus date and photo count
- Example: "Inspection A: Mar 15, 2024 - 3 photos"
Display Features¶
Inspection Information: - Date and time of inspection - Number of photos in the session - Location information (if GPS data available) - Weather conditions during inspection
Photo Grid: - Thumbnail view of all photos in selected inspection - Click any photo to view larger version - Metadata display for each image - Color palette visualization
How Gallery View Works¶
Inspection Grouping¶
The Gallery View groups photos based on:
- Date proximity: Photos taken within the same timeframe
- Location similarity: Photos with similar GPS coordinates
- Manual associations: Photos you've manually grouped together
Navigation Between Inspections¶
- Dropdown selector: Choose different inspection sessions
- Session state persistence: Your selection is remembered as you navigate
- Quick comparison: Easy to switch between different inspection dates
Photo Details¶
When viewing photos in the gallery:
- Full metadata display: Complete EXIF and analysis data
- Color analysis: Visual representation of extracted colors
- Weather correlation: Environmental conditions during photo capture
- Annotations: Your notes and observations for each photo
Current Gallery Capabilities¶
Viewing Options¶
Inspection Overview: - Summary of all photos in selected inspection - Date, time, and location information - Weather data correlation - Color analysis summary
Individual Photo View: - High-resolution image display - Complete metadata extraction results - AI analysis results (if configured) - Your annotations and notes
Data Integration¶
The Gallery View integrates with: - Timeline Dashboard: Photos appear on timeline visualizations - Data Export: Include gallery data in CSV/JSON exports - Weather Services: Show environmental context for each inspection
Planned Gallery Enhancements¶
Future Features
Gallery View enhancements under development include:
- Advanced filtering: Filter by date range, weather conditions, or tags
- Search functionality: Find specific photos by keywords or metadata
- Bulk operations: Select and manage multiple photos at once
- Comparison tools: Side-by-side viewing of photos from different inspections
- Enhanced sorting: Multiple sorting options (date, location, color analysis)
- Photo editing: Basic editing tools and annotation features
Best Practices for Gallery Usage¶
Organization Tips¶
Consistent Photography: - Take photos at similar times during inspections - Use consistent naming conventions for files - Enable GPS on your camera for location grouping
Regular Review: - Browse gallery after each inspection to verify proper grouping - Add annotations while observations are fresh - Check that photos are associated with correct inspection sessions
Navigation Efficiency¶
Using Inspection Dropdown: - Inspections are pre-sorted by date for easy chronological review - Use letter designations (A, B, C) for quick reference - Photo counts help identify comprehensive vs. quick inspections
Memory Aids: - Add detailed notes to help remember context later - Use consistent tagging for seasonal patterns - Include weather observations in your annotations
Troubleshooting Gallery Issues¶
Common Problems¶
Gallery Shows "No Inspections Available": - Ensure you have uploaded photos via the Dashboard - Check that photos were successfully processed - Verify session state hasn't been cleared
Photos Not Properly Grouped: - Check GPS data in photo EXIF - Verify date/time settings on camera were correct - Consider manually reassigning photos to correct inspections
Slow Gallery Loading: - Large photo collections may load slowly - Consider browser memory limitations - Close other tabs to improve performance
Missing Photo Details: - Some metadata requires successful photo processing - Check internet connection for weather data - Verify Google Cloud Vision API configuration for AI analysis
Performance Tips¶
Optimal Usage: - Allow photos to fully process before viewing in gallery - Use smaller image files for faster loading - Regularly export data to maintain system performance
Browser Considerations: - Modern browsers work best (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) - Clear browser cache if experiencing slow performance - Ensure adequate system memory for photo display
Integration with Other Views¶
Timeline Dashboard Connection¶
- Photos in Gallery View appear as data points on timeline charts
- Click timeline points to view corresponding photos in gallery
- Consistent inspection grouping across both views
Data Export Integration¶
- Gallery selections are included in data export functions
- Export specific inspection data or complete gallery contents
- JSON exports preserve inspection grouping and associations
Calendar View Coordination¶
- Gallery View inspections align with Calendar View dates
- Consistent inspection naming and organization
- Cross-navigation between gallery and calendar interfaces
The Gallery View provides an essential photo browsing interface for your beehive inspection workflow. As additional features are developed, this documentation will be updated to reflect new capabilities and improvements.
